Age and Language Requirements: There is no age requirement but from 1st Nov. 2024 students must appear for an English language proficiency test for the PGWP.
Duration of the Work Permit
For 8 months to less than 2 years program, the Post-Graduation work permit validity is for 1 year.
For 2 years or longer program, the Post-Graduation work permit validity is up to 3 years.
Application Process
Timing: Students must apply for the PGWP within 180 days of receiving confirmation (transcripts or graduation letter) that they have completed their program.
Online Application: Applications are submitted online through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.
Documents Required: Applicants need to provide:   A valid study permit.   Proof of program completion (official transcripts and graduation letter).   Any other required documents, such as passport copy.   SIN.
Conditions
Work Restrictions: The PGWP is an open work permit, which allows graduates to work for any employer in Canada and in any job, without restrictions.
Validity: The PGWP cannot be renewed, and students must apply within the specified time frame after graduation.
Transitioning to Permanent Residency
Express Entry
The PGWP work experience can help students to qualify for permanent residency through the Express Entry system.
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)
Based on the work experience in the province, some provinces allow international graduates to apply for permanent residency .
Important Notes
Study Permit Validity: study permit must be valid at the time of application for the PGWP.
Travel During Application: If you leave Canada while your PGWP application is being processed, you may not be able to return to Canada until you have the permit.
